I doubt Anne’s reading this, but the charge of ‘chief misogynist’ becomes a little harder to substantiate after reading this series of articles written by Moore almost 30 years ago, concerning sexism within comics and the comic industry itself – http://glycon.livejournal.com/15725.html (full transcript included after the scans).

I’m not saying he’s flawless (he admits as much in the interview), but the idea that he’s an out-and-out misogynist doesn’t seem to fit with what he at least attempts to achieve through his writing.

Finally got around reading your interview. Really interesting and I can see how you’d have wanted more time. He is very a very interesting man.
The only thing I get annoyed at are his apparent complete disdain for modern culture whereas he looks at past culture with rose-tinted glasses and his black and white view of the entertainment industry. It’s perfectly understandable for him to object being subjected to these constraints; he has had enough problems with them and he has a long enough career to be perfectly justified in that, but to object their very existence is a bit too much to me.
Well, I guess it just makes him human.

P.S: Sorry if there are any English mistakes, it’s terrifying how, even with a pompous degree you can’t seem to master completely a language. That and I tend to have trouble wording my thoughts in a coherent way.

You do realise this was an interview for a mainstream newspaper right? “You go girl”? C’mon, really? Patronising internalised misogyny isn’t cool.

Whether or not Moore is a misogynist is clearly up for debate, but to deny the good he has done for women in comics would be disingenuous. I’ve read most of Moore’s comic work and I’d disagree with him being a “chief misogynist”, but that’s not what this particular interview was about.

I wasn’t worried no, but the original pitch was for a League interview so I wasn’t sure if it was impolite to stray from the topic too much. Glad I did though as it (accidentally) fitted in well with a feminist theme in the actual paper that issue!
